Summer 2008
The lazy, hazy days of Summer are upon us and yet our fingers still itch to be doing glass. Whether it’s making windows, fusing bowls or forming beads in a flame, idle holiday time is when new ideas seem to bubble up to the surface.
Speaking of lampwork beads, Penny and Lori spent two full days in July “playing” with fire at Susan Hood’s Glass Harp Gallery. We were blown away by the B & B & Beading establishment she has in Yarmouth. Elegant accommodation, an extensive studio with all the bells and whistles and, an endless exchange of ideas and information made for an exhilarating mini vacation in the guise of continuing education.
We highly recommend booking some time at the torch with Su, if you can catch her in the country long enough. Obviously, Lori and Penny aren’t the only ones eager to share their passion for glass.
Our Studio SUMMER hours are: Monday – Friday 9 – 5, Saturday 10 – 4 and, evenings by appointment.
May, 2008
We will ignore the cold sleet that’s falling and focus on the positive and exciting happenings at Cranberry Stained Glass Studio.
First, Lori had a whirlwind week of fun and instruction at the Glass Craft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas! True to our motto, “Sharing a Passion for Glass”, we have brought in a dozen Mircofusion Kilns – yes, you pop them in your microwave and, eight short minutes later, voila you have a sparkling cabochon or PMC adornment. Watch for upcoming workshops demonstrating its capabilities.
I know you don’t want to go there but, in anticipation of Christmas, Lori also experimented with Glaskolben mouth-blown ornaments. Soon we’ll fire up the torch and share the magic with you too.
Speaking of magic, NoDays has modified their lead came adhesive product so that it’s available now for mosaic applications. NoDays sheets can be laid over a pattern, transferred to your table top, for example, and melted into position. No more gluing each individual piece in place – do your whole pattern at once – and move immediately to grouting or pouring cement.
These are just three new products we’re showcasing. Visit us to learn more about these and other innovative ideas.
January, 2008
All of us at Cranberry Stained Glass have had a refreshing break after the busyness that surrounds the end of the year. We’re actually enjoying the quiet enforced by yet another winter storm. Of course those aren’t idle hours. We’re rearranging the studio so it will look fresh and interesting when you’re in next.
Joan Wilson, one of our consignment artists, has a number of new water colour paintings on display and for sale – Nova Scotian themes and vibrant florals to help us dream of Spring.
We have resurrected a dozen or so old leaded windows destined for the garbage and offer them for sale as part of an innovative Lead Restoration Course. Starting in February you can learn how the professionals revitalize these old treasures.
Many of us make New Year resolutions. At Cranberry we try all year long to be open to new possibilities to further our goal of “Sharing a Passion for Glass” with all of our customers.
December, 2007
The holiday season is upon us. Our second annual Kiln Ceilidh was a big success – far more people than we expected showed up for our fun-filled fusing event. Already designs are being discussed for next year. We’ll let you in on the secret eleven months from now.
We’re still offering a number of workshops in December and, if you check our class schedule http://www.cranberrystainedglass.com/cranberrycourses/schedule.php, you’ll see that we’ll be going twice as strong by the second week of January.
Speaking of January, Susan Hood’s lampworking sessions have grown in popularity this year, so she will be making regular appearances at Cranberry Stained Glass in 2008. Already we have had to open up extra class time in the third week of January to accommodate all her eager students. We’re looking forward to another exciting FREE demonstration on the evening of Friday, January 18 from 6 – 9pm.
Just a reminder that Gift Certificates of all values are available for the stained glass addict in your family, or you can drop the hint that you would appreciate one in your stocking. Also, we have some charming tree ornaments and hostess gifts ready made and decorating our studio. Drop by today if you need a last minute gift.
Lori, Penny, and all the staff at Cranberry hope that you have an enjoyable and safe holiday season. We look forward to sharing our passion for glass with you in the year ahead.
